Did you know?
During the extraction process for crude oil and natural gas, water also comes out of the well and is brought to the surface. This water is a byproduct of the oil and gas extraction and is referred to as produced water.
Produced water often contains various contaminants, including:
- Soluable or non-soluable oil
- Organic materials
- Dissolved solids
- Chemicals
These contaminants must be removed and that is where filtration plays an important role. Filters and filtration systems are used to remove these solids and hydrocarbon contaminants from the water. This treatment of the water helps prevent any environmental issues associated with surface disposal and plugging during re-injection.
Filters used for produced water applications
Various filters and filter housings are used during produced water applications to ensure that the water is properly treated to meet environmental regulations.
Filters used to treat produced water:
- Multi-bag housings
- Multi-cartridge housings
- High flow housings
- Oil absorbing filter bags
- Melt blown cartridges
